Co-creating a regenerative future for Sydney
Regen Sydney is a network of organisations & individuals exploring a regenerative future for Sydney. We are collaborating across silos and sectors - building the social infrastructure needed to bring Sydney into the safe and just space.
In this future, all of Sydney thrives.
Regen Waverley
Regen Sydney is convening the Thinker in Residence program in partnership with Waverley Council in Sydney’s east.
Grounded at the local scale, we are strengthening creative civic engagement and thickening the relationships between community and place that make the neighbourhood thrive.
Sketching a Sydney Doughnut
This report presents the first sketch of a Sydney Doughnut - a compass for regeneration in Greater Sydney.
We detail the findings from a series of community workshops and stakeholder roundtables held in late 2022, which form the foundation for this Sydney Doughnut sketch. Finally, this publication outlines opportunity areas for transformative action and presents Regen Sydney's strategy and upcoming streams of engagement.
Growing the Movement for a regenerative Sydney
This report showcases Regen Sydney’s formative journey, and communicates the exciting potential of growing the network.
The narrative and findings included in this report draw from public events, community workshops and desktop research conducted in 2021. Guided by the question, "what does good look like for Sydney?", we explore what initiatives are already underway - to see what else might be needed to shift towards a future that's inspiring for us all.
Exploring Doughnut Economics in Sydney
Our first action together is to explore a Doughnut Economics City Portrait for Sydney. Kate Raworth's Doughnut Economic framework is being used by cities and regions across the globe as a compass for human progress this century.
Regen Sydney is using the Doughnut model to engage institutions, organisations and individuals to explore the economic narrative in a post-COVID Sydney.
Cities including Amsterdam, Brussels, Portland and Melbourne are downscaling the Doughnut by developing a City Portrait to guide policy development and service delivery.
Early work was done in collaboration with C40 Cities, Thriving Cities Initiative (TCI), Doughnut Economics Action Lab, Biomimicry 3.8 and Circle Economy.

“The challenge the Doughnut sets us is simple, yet formidable: to improve the lives of people everywhere, while radically reducing our impact on the world.”
